WHY ARE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS IMPORTANT FOR KIDS?

Starting a new year is always a great time to sit down with your little ones to make a game of choosing one or two new year resolutions.   These chats are important in helping them develop good life skills such as self discipline, problem solving and keeping up with their responsibilities around the house. Here are some ideas:

  1. Encourage your child to be more independent by setting a goal for them to do more things on their own, such as dressing themselves or brushing their own teeth.
  2. Help your child set a goal to be more organized by encouraging them to put away their toys when they're finished playing with them or helping them to create a daily routine.
  3. Encourage your child to be more physically active by setting a goal to go on a daily walk or participate in a weekly sports activity.
  4. Help your child develop their social skills by setting a goal to be more kind and helpful to others, or to make a new friend.
  5. Encourage your child to develop their creativity by setting a goal to try a new art or music activity each month.
  6. Help your child improve their communication skills by setting a goal to use kind words and listen when others are speaking.
  7. Encourage your child to be more responsible by setting a goal to complete a weekly chore or help with a household task.

Remember, the key to success with new year resolutions for preschoolers is to keep them simple and achievable. Encourage your child to take small steps towards their goals and celebrate their successes along the way. With your support and encouragement, your preschooler can develop important life skills and have a happy and healthy new year!
